So, I went to check out Space Adventures. The Suborbital Spaceflight is a $100,000 prize for the adventure minded. The space adventure will require a little vacation time since the winner will start out with training to prepare them for the flight itself. Then on flight day, they’ll be boosted by rocket engines to a 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the earth. The place where space begins. The engines will then shut down for five minutes of weightlessness and a view of earth from space. I’ll assume that the winner will then somehow return to earth but Space Adventures doesn’t supply any details on that. (A little research reveals that Space Adventures is a Russian company and that flights are in a winged aircraft rather like a shuttle. So the landing is controlled, not a splashdown for those of us old enough to remember the old space programs.)
